Spring brings strong waterfalls and fresh green forest. Summer is best for long trail days. Autumn is quiet and colourful, while winter belongs to fireside weekends and the February festival.
A car gives you the most freedom because Apriltsi stretches across four neighbourhoods. Buses connect the town with Troyan and regional centres, but trailheads and remote stays are easier by car or arranged transfer.
There are easy river walks and picnic routes, but the high routes toward Pleven Hut, Maragidik and Botev require fitness, proper equipment and mountain-weather judgement.
